Automatic Creation of Links from the Clipboard — Could this be a preference?

I often put dummy links into my files and then go back and update them after I finish writing the piece. The auto-magic conversion drives me a bit crazy as I can't simply select the dummy link and paste over it.

Any chance of making this a preference, so I could turn it off?

Thanks so much!

I'll certainly consider this, but I want to avoid making the preferences overly complicated --- there's more stuff in there now than I would prefer as is.

In the mean time if you hit delete before pasting, you can then paste the new link in --- I'm sure you figured that out, but for now that's the only alternative. Well, I guess one other option is to use reference style links that you leave blank, and then paste the URLs in at the end. Which would seem more in line with the Markdown philosophy, but that's a personal opinion, not gospel. ;)

Came up with something that I think is better.

If you're pasting a URL onto a selection that is already a URL, then it simply does a normal paste and overwrites the previous URL. This seems fairly innocuous, since it would be odd to create a link with one URL as the text and another as the link target (unless you're creating spam...)

Otherwise, the current behavior remains, and a new link is created with the URL on the clipboard.

    Sound good?
