Open Document in New Tab

Perhaps it's because I'm still new to MMD Composer, but I haven't found a way to open a file directly into a new tab. So far I can only open a new file, which pulls up a new window, and then gather these into a single window. So my suggestion:

could there be a setting in Preferences that allows documents to open in a new tab by default?

It might also be worth having this as a drop-down-menu item as well: File > Open in a New Tab. That would help users who just want to do it as a one-off. But since I almost always use tabs in a single window, rather than multiple windows, my personal preference would be to have a setting in Preferences.

Peace out,

    Thanks for writing with the suggestion — I’ll take a look at this and see if there would be any issue with adding a preference and/or separate menu commands vs some other approach.

    This will be included in the next release (4.4).

    Howdy Fletcher,

    I've upgraded to 4.4.4 and I think I'm missing something: how do I open a file into a new tab in the current window? These are things I was trying:

    • look for a menu option Open in New Tab;
    • hit [command]+t for a new tab, then Open... to see if the file opened in the newly created tab;
    • go to Preferences looking for Set Default: Always open files in a new tab in the current window.

    I didn't have any success in finding a way to open directly into a new tab with any of these. Am I missing something obvious...?

    Thanks for all the other new features.

    Peace out,

    If you open a folder (e.g. as a "project window"), then any files you
    open from the file table on the left will be opened as a new tab. (This
    is a new Pro feature in 4.4+)

    I can add a preference to force newly opened documents to open as a new tab.

    Oh, I see! I found it... that's very cool.

    Yes, if possible, it would be helpful to have a setting in preferences to force new documents in a new tab (I often have to open individual files spread across folders, rather than having them all in a single project).

    If possible a menu option "Open in a New Tab" would also be great. But the setting in preferences would be the most useful for me.

    Thanks so much.

    Peace out,
