Shortcut for inserting </br>
I'm aware of the shortcut for inserting a hard line break, however it would also be very useful to have a shortcut for inserting </br> as relying on two spaces at the end of line is far too error prone.
Ideally the shortcut should only require the use of one hand, so perhaps 'alt + enter' if that is free.

If "space-space-enter" is too long to remember/type, but "alt+enter" isn't, it's time for the apocalypse.

I'm asking for a shortcut to insert the text '</br>', which I type instead of two spaces because the latter is impossible to proof read, not being visually represented.

Composer isn't designed to insert HTML markup directly. Something like this should be handled with TextExpander, Keyboard Maestro, etc. That would allow you to create shortcuts for anything that you like.
I, for instance, virtually never use `<br/>`.
