Do you have CriticMarkup enabled? Check the CM preferences.

Even with markups in the document, the criticmarkup window remains grayed out. I can put text in the search field, but it doesn't seem to search.

carltag:support.multimarkdown.com,2013-02-12:Comment/458969412018-08-15T13:29:04Z2018-08-15T13:29:04Zcriticmarkup window - what does it do?

Do this, in order:

Use the default "Solarized Dark" theme

Make sure you are using accurate CM syntax -- sample text is below,
just in case.

Make sure that your CriticMarkup is appropriately highlighted (e.g.
red for deletions, orange for substitutions, etc.).

If not, the problem is your preferences. Make sure you have
CriticMarkup enabled, and make sure you are using MultiMarkdown and not
"strict" Markdown. Markdown doesn't have support for CriticMarkup.

Verify you see your CM in the assistant. If not make sure you are not
accepting or rejecting all proposed changes in your preferences. If so,
then there is nothing left to work with, so the CM assistant will be
empty (it is configured after the raw text is processed).

If you are certain the settings are correct, send me the following
and I'll dig deeper:

a. A copy of the file you are using (send the file, not a copy/paste of the text)

b. screenshots of your CM and MMD preferences

If you see the highlighting in the editor, and see content in the CM
assistant, and still can't interact with them, send me a screencast
(e.g. with QuickTime Player) showing me what happens when you select and deselect various items. That might give me a clue.

Thanks!

I apologize for taking your time.

I’m not sure what “the assistant” is. Is that the window on the left turned on/off with the toggle CriticMarkup window menu option?

Here’s what I’ve learned.

CriticMarkup comments don’t show up in the CriticMarkup window, and I believe that’s the way it’s supposed to work. The CM window shows changes, not comments, and changes don’t appear until I turn on tracking.

Your sample text answered the questions for me. I think everything is working as it should.

I think the transclude option is going to be awesome, but I haven’t explored it yet.

Is there a single PDF manual or user guide? That would help, I think.

Thanks again,

Carl

carltag:support.multimarkdown.com,2013-02-12:Comment/458969412018-08-17T02:21:02Z2018-08-17T02:21:02Zcriticmarkup window - what does it do?

The "assistants" are simply the sidebar tools that add functionality (TOC, CM, References) -- they can be toggled on/off in the "Window" menu.

The best source of information is the support site:

Thank you for your time. Count me as a satisfied writer off and running with Multimarkdown Composer.

I’ll recommend your products to all who will listen, and I’m preparing a blog post about plain text. It’s not widely read, but my writer friends will see it.

The more I learn about Composer, the more I like it. I would like to see more documentation, but that’s becoming less of a need. It’s a pretty easy to understand product.

Many thanks!

No reply necessary, I’ve taken enough of your time.

Regards from Texas,

Carl

carltag:support.multimarkdown.com,2013-02-12:Comment/458969412018-08-18T21:40:51Z2018-08-18T21:40:51Zcriticmarkup window - what does it do?

One other thought, in case I misunderstood.

If you're looking for additional documentation on MultiMarkdown itself, not just MMD Composer, you can also look here:

https://fletcher.github.io/MultiMarkdown-6/

(It's still in progress for v6. Most of the stuff from v5 that has not been updated yet is still accurate -- https://fletcher.github.io/MultiMarkdown-5/).

Hope that helps,
