<p>Did you turn off MultiMarkdown by chance? Markdown doesn’t support footnotes.</p>

<p>You can combine MultiMarkdown and HTML, but it can be tricky when getting into the level of tables and cells. In that case, you’re right — probably best to use one or the other.</p>
