How many machines per license?
If I want to edit documents at home and at work, then do I need to buy two copies of MMC?
(I have read the FAQ and searched under a variety of keywords to try to find the answer, but perhaps I am missing something obvious.)

It's sold through the App Store, so the usual rules from Apple apply. The license is per iTunes user account, not machine.
