Problem installing non-sandboxed version (2.6.1 build 45)
I've owned the MAS version of MultiMarkdown Composer for a while, and just recently upgraded to 2.6.2 from the store. I was poking around and noted the sandboxing issue, so I followed the directions here, and downloaded the most recent version available from this page (2.6.1 build 45). I made sure to run the MAS version first, as instructed, but when I tried to run the downloaded version, I got the OSX "do you want to open?" dialog, and nothing else. The dialog goes away, and nothing happens. On subsequent attempts to open the non-sandboxed version, nothing happens.
- Does it matter where the non-sandboxed version is run from (tried Downloads, Home)?
- I tried renaming it, but that failed also.
- Does the problem have something to do with the mismatched version numbers?
Any help would be appreciated.
Update:
I'm using OSX 10.9.1, and here is the console output when I try to open the non-sandboxed MultiMarkdown Composer using "open" from the finder context menu:
12/17/13 14:06:45.758 MultiMarkdown Composer[714]: open on /Users/dw/Library/Application Support/MultiMarkdown Composer/receipt: File exists
12/17/13 14:06:45.768 com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[169]: (com.multimarkdown.composer.mac.169696[714]) Exited with code: 173
12/17/13 14:06:45.818 storeagent[351]: Unsigned app (/Users/dw/Downloads/MultiMarkdown Composer/MultiMarkdown Composer.app).
I note that the storeagent seems to be upset that the app is unsigned, but my understanding was that either "open" in the context menu, or the "From anywhere" GateKeeper preference setting should take care of this.

Try using step 1 on this page: http://www.bu.edu/infosec/howtos/bypass-gatekeeper-safely/
After you open it this way one time, you should be able to open it by double-clicking the icon as usual.

@amy
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried using "open" from the menu as the article suggests, but it didn't make a difference. I've just tried setting my GateKeeper prefs to "Allow from anywhere", but that doesn't seem to be working either. I'll keep messing about.

The latest non-sandboxed version is 2.6.1. I had to change the version number for the MAS, but there really wasn’t a difference. If you first purchased the MAS 2.6.2, then you are sort of in a “black hole” where the other version won’t run until the next release. Should be pretty soon.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep using the MAS version. Is there any
way of keeping track of the release date for the correct "non-sandboxed"
version, or do I just need to keep checking back on the downloads page?

If you leave it enabled, Composer automatically checks for announcements every time you launch it.

Great,
I've got that set, so I should be in good shape.
Thanks for the help.
