Unable to Download v1.1.2 of MultiMarkdown Composer
I recently learned you now charge for v2.x of your MultiMarkdown Composer. I am on a machine that I have yet to install v1.1.2 of MultiMarkdown Composer that I purchased in August 2012. How can I download this version of the software that I paid for?
Please advise.

I must admit, it is disappointing there is no explicit information for your v1 users and the options they have.

I'm sorry you're having trouble.
As you know, the Mac App Store is run by Apple, not by any of the developers whose software is distributed there. Since Apple (understandably) doesn't want thousands of developers "meddling" with their infrastructure, we don't have any access to the MAS. We can't see user accounts. We can't troubleshoot for you. We can't even verify if you purchased a copy of our software.
Fortunately, Apple provides support for the MAS:
If you're having trouble, you can work with them to resolve it.
That said, MultiMarkdown Composer v1 is no longer for sale, so it can't be purchased anymore. If you purchased it previously, you can download it by viewing your previous purchases and downloading it again. This is all well documented by Apple, and works just like every other part of the Mac App Store and iTunes Stores (music, movies, books, etc.). None of it is specific to MultiMarkdown Composer.
Version 2 has been out for almost a year. For several months prior to the release of v2, I posted multiple updates to the web site, twitter feed, etc. about the upcoming release of v2, and that it would be offered at a discount so that owners of v1 could upgrade for a reduced price. Because of the MAS rules, this actually meant that everyone got a discount on v2. Version 2 is a complete rewrite, fixing problems found in v1, and adding a ton of new features and improvements.
As is documented in several places on the web site, I even set up the first release of v2 (2.0) so that it would respect the license from 1.1.2 (once it's installed). You can use it for free to see if you want to upgrade. Keep in mind, however, that there have been countless fixes and improvements since 2.0 was released in January (2.6.2 was just released in the App Store this week). You may be better off trying the more recent demo release to get a feel for what the new version is like, but the demo doesn't allow saving, printing, or exporting.
Hopefully this helps you resolve your difficulties.

First, let me thank you for the completeness of your reply. It is welcome and very much appreciated.
That said, I did some cursory searching for an answer to my query before submitting my question to you for reply. My searches for 'upgrade', 'version 1' appeared to come up with results that did not answer the question "Where can I download v1.1.2 that I purchased?" All results appeared to direct me to how I can move to v2.x, which is not what I wanted.
In the end, It looks like my question was perhaps a basic question on Mac App Store (MAS) usage. I was able to track down through the 'Purchases' pane in the MAS app a way to download the version of Composer (MMC) that I purchased.
Regarding user communication of the upgrade, unfortunately, I simply cannot monitor every application's activity, particularly ones that I do not rely on heavily. Is there any way for you to communicate in-app that the user should be aware of an upgrade approaching? I must admit some frustration that I missed out on a discounted price window for MMC v2. I would have upgraded, but having to pay more than what I paid for v2 does not sit well with me.
I would like to hear of any possible options for me to upgrade to your latest version without paying full price. My initial investment in MMC v1.1.2 was $9.99.

I certainly understand about limited time to keep track of various applications. I myself have to decide how to keep up with the applications I use, and to what extent my time is more valuable than missing out on a "hot deal." I watch a few web sites and twitter feeds, and accept that I may miss out on other deals.
Composer v2 has a feature that (optionally) checks a web page every time it is launched. I announce new releases and the very rare important message there. This allows you to stay current on any new information. (And to be honest, I don't remember if that functionality was included in the first 2.0 release, or if that came later. I think it was there.)
I don't currently have a sale planned for Composer v2, but there will probably be one at some point. Only you can decide whether the new features included in v2 are worth the upgrade price. It certainly varies by location and currency, but where I live even the full price is only a little more than what I would pay to watch a two hour movie in the theater. For an app that I use every day and saves me hours of time, it's a no brainer. But if you rarely use the app, the math might work out differently. Again, check out the demo and decide for yourself -- except for the few people who feel passionately about the TOC being stuck to the side of the editing window, the overwhelming consensus seems to be that Composer v2 is leaps and bounds beyond v1 (and any other MMD editor out there). I've had a fair number of users write me in a similar position as you, and after trying out the demo happily upgraded to the new version and never looked back. A few others held out for the next sale.
This is certainly one of the trade-offs of the MAS -- developers are limited in their ability to interact with you. The up side is that you only have to trust one company (Apple) with your identity and credit card information. As a customer, I think the overall balance is positive. As a developer, I think I get more exposure than I would on my own without having to spend a great deal of time marketing (my "day job" keeps me pretty busy.) But the system is certainly not perfect.
