Typewriter problem?

I can't tell if this is a problem with the typewriter setting or something else.

I don't have Typewriter Mode turned on. When I'm moving through a long file, using the up or down arrow (or highlighting using option+shift up or down), then the text starts scrolling when I hit the middle of the document. In a text editor like TextEdit, the text doesn't start scrolling until I reach the top or bottom of the visible text in the window. I prefer the TextEdit way. Is this a bug in MMC, or is it intentional? If it is intentional, is there a way to turn it off?

Turn off the Advanced pref for keeping insertion point centered with
    arrow keys.

    No worries.

But you are still partially correct -- that preference doesn't seem to
respect whether Typewriter mode is enabled, and it implies that it
    should. I'll look into this.

    Thanks!!
