Typewriter Mode Woes
Apologies for the WoT
For some reason the typewriter function for me has always been a bit wonky. It never seems to solidly stay where I set it. It seems to "drift" over time, generally lower on the page, but occasionally higher. In recent versions it has gotten to the point where I have to quit & reopen MMDC occasionally to get the typewriter function to work semi-correctly. Yosemite might be the culprit. I'm on 10.1 with MMDC 2.7 (55) and I use TextExpander (I'm mentioning this because TE has caused issues in the past).
I usually write with three windows open. I only mention this because I may be an edge case and you don't test MMDC much with multiple windows open. I do know that strange behavior exists with a single window, but since I don't spend much time with a single window open I can't say how often.
I don't know if it's just me, but carriage returns and alphanumeric keys don't immediately "activate" the typewriter line.
As it stands, I can hit return multiple times and the caret will move down the screen… then when I hit a bunch of alphanumeric keys (or autocorrect kicks in), the caret "jumps" back to the "active" line. Similarly, if I hit return all the way to the bottom of the active window, the caret will jump back up once it hits.
There are also situations where I can move the caret down, start typing and it isn't until a sentence or so later that the caret "jumps" to the correct location. I think in these cases, only autocorrect gets the caret to jump back.
The video shows most (not all) of this stuff, but I've got to get back to work ;)
I absolutely adore MMDC, but the typewriter function is literally the one thing that I have had continual issues with. Other than that this app is pure gold.
Here's the video.
This is what I'm doing in the video:
- Adding text with typewriter function set to .5
- Seems centered on the small window to the left, but nowhere near centered on the active window
- Also note that it doesn't adjust to the new position until an autocorrect kicks in.
- Change typewriter to .4
- Now it's super close to the top, and doesn't match the left window
- Nothing happens until autocorrect

This is a problem in 2.7. I had previously refactored some code and didn't properly correct it.
Thanks for pointing this out. Will release 2.7.1 soon that fixes it!
