Unwelcome behaviour with smart pairs

I appreciate the "smart pairs" option, where if I type a single ( I get the closing ) added automatically. It's great too that this works around a highlighted run of text. But here's a case where I think it needs to be smarter. If I the cursor is just to the left of a word, and I type one of the smart pair, I still get both added. But this is unlikely to be what we want. I'm likely to want just the starting character of the pair, and then add further text and close the pair at some point. It's surely never going to be right to have ()word or ""word for example?

I'll experiment with this behavior in the next version. If there are a lot of complaints, it might be changed back.

    Thanks!
