I don't upgrade my machines to new versions of macOS for quite a while, because it seems to take them a while to get all the kinks worked out.... So I'll have to test this on a separate partition.

You can also try deleting the preferences -- quit Composer and then
defaults delete com.multimarkdown.composer4.mac
in Terminal.

Fletchertag:support.multimarkdown.com,2013-02-12:Comment/477594452019-10-31T13:50:39Z2019-10-31T13:50:40ZWindows keep moving positions on Catalina

Will try.

I installed Catalina on a T5 Samsung external SSD, it worked great for testing at WWDC

Composer works fine when I test it, and nvUltra works fine when I use it (they use similar mechanism for remembering window placement, and I am using nvUltra a lot more right now based on the work I am doing but also because it is in active beta testing).

The only thing I have noticed is that Catalina seems to try be smart about the ordering of the various Spaces that I use (but I realized that is because a preference defaults to YES for that functionality.)

Did you try resetting the preferences as above?

Reproduce: with 27" Thunderbolt monitor or 27" UltraFine
1. Plug in external monitor 2. Open Multimarkdown3. Save a file (Command S)[Windows move the first time you save]
Reproduce by unplugging1. Unplug external2. Click on file in Multimarkdown 3. Save a file[Windows move offscreen]

Paul Solttag:support.multimarkdown.com,2013-02-12:Comment/477594452019-12-17T03:25:56Z2019-12-17T03:25:56ZWindows keep moving positions on Catalina

You never mentioned that you disconnect your monitor between closing and opening a document.

Sounds like the problem is not that the document is being somewhere different, I suspect Composer is trying to put it where it belongs but that monitor no longer exists.

For now I suspect you would have to reset the preferences if you remove a monitor to force Composer to forget where the document window used to be located. I'll look into possible solutions.

Fletchertag:support.multimarkdown.com,2013-02-12:Comment/477594452020-07-15T16:19:45Z2020-07-15T16:19:46ZWindows keep moving positions on Catalina

Can you fix this bug?

My open Multimarkdown windows constantly are moving after I connect/disconnect from external monitors.

Example: I write on my MacBook Pro early in the morning, then I plug into my external displays. Any "Save" will cause my Multimarkdown window to move unexpectedly offscreen or to the second monitor. I have to move it back to where it was just located and continue writing.

Expected: Windows should not move if I save a document

Actual: Any time I change a monitor configuration, if I save an open Multimarkdown document, the document will move offscreen, to the 2nd screen, or somewhere.

Paul Solttag:support.multimarkdown.com,2013-02-12:Comment/477594452020-07-27T01:53:27Z2020-07-27T01:53:27ZWindows keep moving positions on Catalina

Paul,

I believe you have used nvUltra. Does this happen with nvUltra as well?

Fletcher

Fletchertag:support.multimarkdown.com,2013-02-12:Comment/477594452020-08-19T20:04:55Z2020-08-19T20:04:55ZWindows keep moving positions on Catalina

I dug into this some more. When I test with nvUltra and Composer v 5 (which is a total rewrite and uses the underlying text engine from nvUltra as well as an entirely rebuilt document handling model), it does not trigger this behavior when I test.

To copy the fixes over to Composer 4 would require a great deal of refactoring of code, and I think that time is better spent in getting nvUltra 1.0 shipped, and then getting Composer 5 up to more or less feature parity with Composer 4 so that I can get those improvements out.

Fletchertag:support.multimarkdown.com,2013-02-12:Comment/477594452020-09-01T14:10:36Z2020-09-01T14:10:38ZWindows keep moving positions on Catalina

Any solution works for me, but nVUltra doesn't meet my needs since I can't seem to open multiple windows.

The UX in nvUltra is counter-intuitive and it seems to "yell" at me with error beeps when I try to do common actions that work in other text editors (Save with Command + S).

I typically have multiple Multimarkdown windows open from various meeting notes (4-6 meetings) throughout the day, proposal drafts, blog post drafts, and I have a really big "Daily Writing 2020.md" file where I add 500-1500 word thoughts on a daily basis.

Paul Solt
