Issue with on-screen keyboard and question on saving files
Dear Fletcher,
I have a question on and an issue to report for Composer for iOS.
-
The issue: When I'm done typing with the on-screen keyboard and I tap on the key that is at the bottom right of the keyboard to make it disappear, the keyboard does disappear but leaves behind a black horizontal band. This happens both in portrait and in landscape mode. However, if I rotate the device – to landscape if I was using it in portrait mode and to portrait if I was using it in landscape mode – the black band disappears.
-
The question: When I modify a file, does Composer save it automatically or does it save it only when I tap on Done? If the latter, would it be possible to add a Save option? I would find it inconvenient to have to close the file, which is what happens when I tap on Done, in order to save it.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Enrico

Enrico,
1. What sort of device are you using? Are you using latest version from TestFlight?
2. Composer uses standard UIDocument interface, which saves on close and periodically while editing (standard iOS behavior). If using a keyboard, you can use Cmd-S to save manually (in next release), but I don't plan on adding a separate save button at this time (trying to minimize on-screen clutter.)
Thanks!

Dear Fletcher,
Thank you for the prompt and helpful reply.
I use a 10.5” iPad Pro. I am using the latest version of Composer I got through TestFlight (1.0 (54)); I know you mentioned in previous exchanges that a new version would be released soon, but I never received an email from TestFlight to redeem a new version; am I missing something?
I do sometimes use a Smart Keyboard, but I did not know I will be able to use Cmd-S: that is more than enough for me! Thank you for clarifying that.
Best regards,
Enrico

1.0 (54) is the latest public beta. I'm testing a few next steps and will submit that soon. But it shouldn't change keyboard behavior.... We'll have to keep looking.

Dear Fletcher,
I just wanted to let you know that the problem no. 1 I had described above persists in v 1.0 (67) on both iPad Pro 10.5 and iPhone XS, both running iOS 12.3.1. Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Enrico

Enrico,
I've been rewriting some of the core code (currently being used in nvUltra -- https://nvultra.com/) and working around some dropbox limitations that are causing sync issues.
My goal is to get these new components "polished" and then swap them into Composer for iOS as well. Then I can keep working on some of these little glitches as well.
Thanks!
Fletcher

Thank you very much for your prompt and kind reply, Fletcher, and for sharing the link to the nvUltra website!
I can only imagine how busy you must currently be with that new project and importing those changes into Composer for Mac and for iOS, so I hope you will forgive my bringing those issues with Composer for iOS to your attention: I didn't want to stress you out unnecessarily but simply wanted to do my part as beta tester, so thank you for your patience!
Best regards,
Enrico
