Is there a way, in a style sheet, to increase the spacing between default paragraphs? This is to avoid having to use two Returns, which cause some converters to create extra elements in .docx files.

Yes, it's a total nit :)

Thanks.

    David,

You can't change the paragraph spacing per se, but you can change the
line height which changes the spacing between all lines. With a blank
line between paragraphs, it exaggerates the difference.

Experiment with the setting in the "Appearance" preferences, and then
you can modify a style sheet with your preferred number.

That's a shame. It's not good form to put two newlines just to get greater vertical spacing. This typography ought to be controlled by the layout engine without hacks like that. This is the case in LaTeX, HTML, Word, Pages, InDesign, and in the text editor Bear.
Personally I also don't like the waste of vertical space in the editing window that comes from inserted two newlines.

See this other discussion as to why trying to change paragraph spacing doesn't really work in Markdown document editors:

    http://support.multimarkdown.com/discussions/questions/4027-vertica...

You will always need two newlines to separate paragraphs due to the way Markdown paragraphs work.
