In the Keyboard Preference Pane, on the Text Panel, I have two choices selected:
1. Capitalize words automatically.
2. Add period with double-space.

in MMC, beta 4.0b (9), this is not fully supported. In MMC, the settings of Check Spelling while typing and Correct Spelling Automatically are checked.

The capitalize words doesn't work. So the first word of a sentence is not automatically capitalized and pressing two spaces gives you a space and a period which should be just one period.

This is an issue with automatic spell checking in general.

See https://stackoverflow.com/questions/45705424/custom-nstextview-inserttextreplacementrange-breaks-spell-checking if you want details, or have some ideas on a fix!

FYI -- still working on this.

Partially fixed -- spell check works, but not automatic correction/replacement.

Finally. After a few months of looking into this off/on, I think it's almost all working:

    • Spell checking works
    • Grammar checking works
    • Automatic spelling correction works
    • Automatic text replacements work
    • Automatic capitalization works

The only thing that still doesn't work is the double space -> period conversion. This seems to be handled differently than the others, so I haven't found a way to intercept it.

Interestingly the double space gives me a space and a period. It is the
space in middle which needs to go.

Thank you for looking at this for me.
